can something like this be pulled from under our feet

Characters: Rogue and Remy
Content: Miss match of canon. Remy's fighting for the Brotherhood, Rogue's just left.

So this was what it was like being on the other side. Fighting the good fight didn't seem like an actual fight. It was more like destruction. A war was raging on for the Brotherhood. Charles had called them in. Rogue still wasn't exactly "in" with the X-Men, yet. She knew all eyes were on her as Cyclops tried to lead them on.

She was still trying to prove herself. She wasn't a spy for Magneto and the Professor trusted her enough to make her one of them. Still the point was to subdue as many members of the Brotherhood as possible. Fighting against the people she once fought with. But this was her life now.

Things seemed evenly matched, save for the burning building and things exploding. But Ice Man and Storm seemed to be fighting back well enough. Marie weaved in and out of people, doing what she could. She was still getting used to the idea of actually using her power instead of just manipulating people with it.

Normally it'd be a lot harder to catch Rogue off guard like that, but what Gambit had said had touched a nerve and she'd drawn her attention to the other X-Men who were trying to assess the situation and stop the chaos. It was then that the man had made his moved.

And before she knew it, Marie was down on the ground with him on top of her. She looked at him, brows furrowed before craning her neck to look back at the man who had just fired the gun, the bullet bouncing off of a nearby building.

"You saved me." She was a little confused at that. She tried to get out from under him, but pushing him off wasn't so easy.

Gambit tried to blunt the impact slightly, hitting the ground with one hand first and trying to slow their descent, but he didn’t have a lot of time to think, just to act. For the briefest of moments he lay there, lifting his head enough to look into her eyes.

”You saved me.” She said it like she was surprised, like she had expected him to just let her get shot. It was enough to break the spell and kick him into action again, because while he may have saved her, the threat was still present. Swiftly getting off of her, Gambit spun around, one heavy boot quickly disarming the fallen man. With eyes somehow cold as ice yet burning with fire, he crouched down and grabbed the front of them human’s jacket, pulling him up to eye level.

“Dat was a big mistake, homme,” he threatened as the material fisted in his hand began to glow.

She was still in a little shock. Of course it shocked her. He was on the other side. Well she was on the other side now, and he still saved her. That and the fact she let her guard down in the first place. Rogue could have easily been shot and killed right in that moment.

She hadn't realized Remy had already moved off of her and towards the man when she stood. His hand was glowing when she started to put the pieces together. "Remy, no. You'll be no better'an him if you do this." Marie pleaded, using his real name for the first time.

It would be so easy. All he would have to do was let go, let go and leap away and he would put a bloody end to this sorry man’s life. There would be pieces of him spread across the road, the buildings... they would have to search for scattered and shattered teeth to even identify him. It would be quick, messy, and final.

Then he heard her voice. Gone was the anger and the coldness. The words were no softer, but there was something in her tone and the way she said his name that broke through the red fog that had settled over him. Looking down at the terrified man, the glowing shirt and his own hand causing it all, Remy felt suddenly sick. It was one thing to cause random mass destruction, but this would be murder, cold and calculated murder.

Slowly the glowing light faded and when he finally released the man there was no danger in it anymore, though he did make sure to push him hard enough into the pavement to knock him unconscious. Getting swiftly to his feet, the Cajun kept his eyes on the fallen man a moment longer before finally turning his eyes to Rogue. “You know jus’ cause you switched sides don’ make us de bad guys now.”

He could still save her, he could still show mercy. Just because they no longer saw eye to eye didn’t make him evil.

She stopped and stood back from him. How could she reply to that? He'd just saved her and he let the asshole who tried to kill her go. Marie opened her mouth to say something, but what could she say? He was supposed to be the bad guys. Rogue knew what the Brotherhood did. She'd been a part of it for so long, and it only led to more destruction.

She swallowed sharply. It was best to ignore what he just said. Pressing her streaks behind her ear, she looked down. "Thanks. For saving me." She told him quietly.
